Columbus Catholic Schools Local Scholarships

These scholarships offered because of the generosity of the donors listed below. They are one-time awards for CCHS seniors and are not renewable. The scholarships vary in amounts; some may be divided to acknowledge more students. The application window for 2021-2022 is now closed.

 

Method for Selecting Recipients

Only seniors who submit a completed application by the deadline below will be considered for CCHS Local Scholarships (MACF scholarships deadline was 2/5/22). The information you provide is confidential and is used only by the CCHS Faculty Scholarship Committee and MACF. Academic achievement, leadership, character, and financial need are qualities the committee strongly considers when selecting recipients for these awards. Be specific when indicating the amount of time involved in an activity.

DOROTHY DRAXLER NURSING SCHOLARSHIP ($500)

Dorothy was a graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing. She was an R.N. Anesthetist at St. Joseph's Hospital and Marshfield Clinic. The recipient must be pursuing a four-year nursing degree. 

ERVIN KEHRBERG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient must attend a post-secondary institution. This scholarship is based on academics and financial need. 

GERALD & NANCY BAUER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($500)

Gerald and Nancy Bauer were hard-working, honest people who enjoyed helping others.  Family and church were important to them, as was treating all people equally.  They were involved in agriculture their entire lives, from hauling milk, farming, Agri-Business and Feed Manufacturing.  Gerald and Nancy had nine children, 39 grandchildren, and 51 great-grandchildren!  After their passing, the Bauer family wanted to create a scholarship that would celebrate Gerald and Nancy’s legacy of caring and helping others; so they created the Gerald and Nancy Bauer Memorial Scholarship to help Columbus students who are either: pursuing a career in an agriculture-related field; or will be attending a 2-year technical/trade college.

GERALD "JERRY" DESMET MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (4 @ $550)

Gerald “Jerry” DeSmet passed away in 2021.  Jerry began his teaching career with the Marshfield School District in 1968 where he spent his entire career teaching physical education and coaching basketball.  He retired in 2001.  His two sons and daughter graduated from Columbus Catholic High School, as did three of his grandchildren.  Two of his grandsons followed in his footsteps to become teachers and his granddaughter is a registered nurse.  Jerry’s family wishes to honor his memory with four scholarships: two for a Nursing Major (or medical field) and two for an Education Major (or any field). 

JOHN F. & JANET BUJALSKI SCHOLARSHIP ($500)

This scholarship is established in memory of John F. Bujalski – AND – in honor of his surviving wife Janet Bujalski.  John passed away on May 11, 2020.  The Bujalski’s want(ed) to create a scholarship for a female graduating student to recognize their daughter and granddaughters who are alumni of Columbus Catholic Schools.  The Bujalskis attend(ed) Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church where John was a Lay Minister, Mass Server, and Lector.  John was also in charge of Buildings and Grounds for Our Lady of Peace Church and School. Janet was a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of Peace Church, Assistant Manager/Baker for the Columbus High/Middle School Food Services, and volunteered her time at St. John the Baptist Primary School.  She has also been a member of one of the local PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) – ED since 2005, which raises money and gives out scholarships to graduating seniors. The recipient must be a female graduating senior of Columbus Catholic High School. Financial need is considered.

LOUIS BADZINSKI SCHOLARSHIP

The children of Louis Badzinski celebrated his 90th birthday this past July. In his honor, they gave him this scholarship donation in his name. He is a devoted Catholic and a Catholic School supporter. The recipient must be pursuing an education in a trade or service industry. Financial need is considered.

PAUL & JOANN SCHREINER SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient must attend a Wisconsin Technical College or four-year college next year and go into the trades. The recipient must also be active in the community. Finance need is required. This scholarship is managed by Marshfield Area Community Foundation

ROMAYNE SCHUELLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Romayne Schueller grew up in Barron County and pursued a nursing degree at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Marshfield.  She married “Duke” Schueller and they had four children.  She worked for three years in the OB/GYN Department at St. Joseph’s Hospital; then worked in the Pediatrics Department at Marshfield Clinic until her 1990 retirement.  She passed away on October 16, 2006, at the age of 68.

RON & ELLEN MAURER FAMILY UNDERGRAD SCHOLARSHIP

The Ron and Ellen Maurer Family Scholarship was established in 2016 by Ron and Ellen Maurer. Ron is a graduate of Columbus as well as his three children. Receiving a Catholic education was important to Ron’s parents and to him as a parent. He is thankful for the outstanding education he and his children received at Columbus. Financial need is required.

SR. MIRANDA BUESSELER SSND SCIENCE AWARD

Sister Miranda was an outstanding science teacher at Columbus Catholic for over 20 years. She instilled knowledge, understanding, and—most importantly— enthusiasm for science in her students. The recipient must be pursuing a natural science degree. The recipient is chosen by the Science Department Chair.

SSGT JOSEPH J ALTMANN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (2 @ $500)

Joe Altmann, a 2003 graduate of Columbus Catholic High School, gave his life on Christmas Day 2011 while serving his country in Afghanistan. Joe had a quiet demeanor, was hardworking, respectful of others, humble, and generous. He lived his life looking for ways to help others and lost his life doing just that. This scholarship is a lasting legacy to Joe. The recipient must emulate the type of person Joe exemplified; pursuing a career in service such as paramedic, firefighter, police officer. Will consider psychology (PTSD) or medical field if good candidate. 

W.D. CONNOR TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient must be a senior attending UW-System campus or Wisconsin Technical College System school. Prefer students pursuing a major in agriculture or health-related fields, with financial need. The recipient must have a solid GPA and good work ethics.

The children of Louis Badzinski celebrated his 90th birthday this past July. In his honor, they gave him this scholarship donation in his name. PAUL & JOANN SCHREINER SCHOLARSHIP

ROMAYNE SCHUELLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

National Honors Society Scholarship ($3,200, $5,625, $25,000)

  • A high school senior
  • An active NHS member in good standing
  • Currently enrolled at a school with an affiliated NHS chapter
  • A member of the graduating class of 2022
  • Planning to enroll at a post-secondary college or university in fall 2022
  • NHS student membership must be verified by an active NHS adviser at an affiliated NHS chapter (school). Verification occurs online. Please see www.nhs.us/studentaccount for instructions on how student members can be verified. IMPORTANT: NHS members who have NOT been verified will not be able to access the online application and should not attempt to log in to the application until their student account has been verified by their NHS adviser.
  • Incomplete applications are not evaluated.

Engineers Foundation of Wisconsin Scholarship ($2,000)

  • Graduating HS seniors who plan to study engineering in college next year.

Wisconsin Automotive & Truck Dealer's Association Scholarship ($750-renewable)

  • Must be enrolled in a Wisconsin Technical College pursuing a program in Automotive, Auto Collision, Diesel, or Motorcycle.

Mid-State Technical College Scholarships (varies $200-$2000)

  • Plan to attend Mid-State in fall of 2022
  • Awards range from $200–$2,000 per student, with the average award in the $500–$1,000 range.

UWSP Dept. of Chemistry Trytten Scholarship ($4000)

  • Intend to major in Chemistry or Biochemistry at UWSP (must declare one of these majors)
  • Received at least a 3.50 GPA in high school
  • Letter of recommendation from high school chemistry teacher required

  • Must attend UW-Madison next fall.

UW- La Crosse- Ron & Teri Wilczek Family Scholarship Fund ($1000)

  • Enrolled full-time at UWL
  • In good academic standing
  • Graduate of Columbus Catholic High School (Marshfield) or if no CCHS recipient would consider a graduate from Greenwood High School, with further preference to Marshfield High School graduates
  • Incoming freshman, sophomore, junior or senior
  • Financial need must be considered
  • Statement of financial need must be submitted with application.  
  • To apply: you must activate UWL NetID/Email account before signing into the scholarship system. Activate your UWL account HERE.  Indicate which high school you attend (Please provide school name and city/town of location).

Wisconsin Professional Police Association Scholarship (Various Amounts)

  • Must enroll in a 2 or 4-year college next year in a law enforcement-related field. 
  • Deadline: 2-1-2022

Marshfield Area Community Foundation Scholarships

  • Application site opens Dec. 1, 2021

  • Create User Name/Password; complete Eligibility form; complete the additional information requested from your list of eligible scholarships you receive from MACF.
  • Deadline: 2-5-2022- MACF must receive all application materials to be considered for a scholarship

Below are some MACF Scholarships (italicized) that CCHS graduates have received in past years that may show up on your eligibility list.  You fill out just one application to see if you’re eligible for the scholarships below and even more possible scholarships in the Marshfield area.

  • Norbert and Joan La See Scholarship — Prefer students seeking a career in the trades at a 2 or 4-year college.  Not based on financial need. Renewable. Award: varies                   
  • Marilyn Hardacre Scholarship — Prefer graduating senior seeking a degree in the area of political science or public administration; based on academic standing and extra-curricular activities; not based on financial need. Award: $500 (1 award to a CCHS Graduate)
  • Paul and Jo Ann Schreiner Scholarship — Must attend in-state Technical College or 4-year college next year and going into the trades, financial need, active in the community. Award: $1000
  • Richard and Elaine Cliver Scholarship — Must attend post-secondary education in the fall. Award: $500 (5 awards for CCHS Graduates) 
  • Fore Bill- Bill Allen Memorial Scholarship — Must pursue a degree next year in business, education, engineering, finance, marketing, math, music, health care, or a medically related field; a senior from MHS or CCHS; GPA 3.0+. Award: $500  
  • Jacob Navarro Memorial Scholarship — Must be a full-time student pursuing a degree in an art related field at an accredited school, technical college, or university. Award: $500 (2 awards)      
  • Jewel Scholarship — Graduates of either MHS or CCHS enrolling on a full-time basis at UWSP-Marshfield. Preference is given to students intending to major in Business/Economics.  Award: varies

UWSP- Marshfield Campus Scholarships ($1000 on average)

  • Must attend UWSP-Marshfield next fall
  • Deadline: 12-15-2021 (priority) 3-1-2022 (late round)

American Legion Riders District 8 Scholarship ($1000)

  • Must be a son, daughter, step-son, step-daughter, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister, grandson, or granddaughter of a veteran or active duty service member
  • Must reside in one of the following Wisconsin Counties: Marathon, Menomonie, Portage, Shawano, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood.
  • Three $1000 Scholarships Awarded Spring of Senior year of High School
    • One College-Bound High School Senior Boy
    • One College-Bound High School Senior Girl
    • One Technical College-Bound High School Student
  • Application must include a copy of the veteran's DD Form 214 or a letter from the active duty service member's commanding officer verifying active duty status
  • Deadline: 3-1-2022

Marshfield Eagles Aerie #624 Scholarships (1-$750, 3-$500)

  • Must have at least one parent or grandparent who is a member in good standing of Eagle Aerie #624 or Auxiliary.  
  • GPA = 2.75+
  • Two letters of recommendation confirming completion of service activity
  • Must attend accredited post secondary institution next fall
  • Typed essay explaining future plans
  • Awards: Local-$750, $500(2); State- $500
  • Deadline: 3-1-2022

Marathon County Farm Bureau Scholarship ($500)

  • Marathon County residents only
  • Additional consideration for Family holding Marathon Co. Farm Bureau membership
  • Prefer applicants enrolling in agriculture.
  • Deadline: 3-1-2022

Federated Youth Foundation Scholarship ($2000)

  • Student’s family must be a member of Clark Electric Cooperative and currently be receiving residential service
  • 2.5+ GPA
  • Continuing education next fall
  • Financial need and extra-curricular activities
  • Deadline: 3-7-2022

Marshfield Elk's U.S. Constitution Contest ($500-1st place, $100-2nd place, $75-3rd place)

  • 40 question, multiple-choice exam at Marshfield Elks Lodge
  • Essay question for tie-breaker
  • Date: Saturday, 3-12-2022 at 10:00 am
  • Applications are available in the guidance office.         
  • Deadline: 3-8-2022 (registration form due)

Our Future is in Agriculture Scholarship ($500)

  • Must pursue Ag related field at an accredited school next year to prepare for a career in agriculture or a related field.

Dr. Gordon Backer Memorial Scholarship (Eye Clinic of Wisconsin) ($1000)

  • Must graduate from a high school in Central WI
  • 3.3+ GPA
  • Should be intending to pursue a medically-related field full time at a 2 or 4-year college/university next fall.
  • Deadline: 3-11-2022

Forward Financial Bank Scholarship Program (8 @ $500)

  • Must pursue a degree at an accredited college next year.  
  • Essay
  • 2 letters of recommendation
  • Wisconsin residents only
  • Deadline: 3-21-22

ProVision Cooperative Scholarship (10 @ $500)

  • Must reside within ProVision's Central Wisconsin Trade Territory
  • Based on scholastic achievement, leadership, and written essay.
  • Preference to Agriculture-related degrees and Customers of ProVision Partners Cooperative.
  • Deadline: 3-31-2022

First State Bank Scholarship (10 @ $1000)

  • Student (or student's parent) must be a First State Bank Customer
  • Must be enrolling with an accredited college, university, or technical school on a full-time basis for the term immediately following graduation from high school.
  • Deadline: 3-31-2022

Wisconsin Elk’s Technical College Scholarship ($500)

  • Must attend a Wisconsin Technical College next year
  • Applications available at www.wielks.com — click on forms & publications, then forms, then Technical College Scholarship Application.
  • Deadline: 4-1-2022

Citizens State Bank of Loyal Scholarship ($500)

  • Must be a graduating senior in the Marshfield Area.
  • Application HERE

ISA - International Society of Automation Scholarship ($1500-$2500)

  • Must pursue an automation or process control related course of study terminating in either an associate's or bachelor's degree from any accredited college or university. 
  • Scholarship will be awarded upon successful completion of the first semester of study.
  • Must complete the application form and submit a formal essay on the topic provided on the essay sheet. High School transcript should also be included.

  • Awards are one $2,500 scholarship and four $1,500 scholarships.

Marshfield Sunrise Rotary — Service Above Self Scholarship ($500)

  • Must demonstrate honesty, dependability, empathy, and integrity through volunteer activities that help others in our community.  
  • GPA 2.75+
  • Must attend 2 or 4-year college next year.
  • Deadline: 4-4-2022 

Marshfield Sunrise Rotary — Work-Based Learning Scholarship ($500)

  • Must currently be a student who participates in the Youth Apprenticeship or Co-op/Internship program or who is currently employed in an industry related to the student’s future field of interest
  • Must be a HS senior residing in Marshfield or surrounding community planning to attend an accredited educational institution next year.  
  • Deadline: 4-4-2022  

Lions International Scholarship Award ($500)

  • Must enter a post-secondary program next fall. 
  • Awarded to one CCHS senior

  • Must graduate from CCHS or MHS and attend UWSP-Marshfield or MSTC.
  • Based on extra-curricular activities in school and in the community.  
  • Awarded to one CCHS or MHS senior

Marshfield Fast Pitch Scholarship (2-$500)

  • Must have participated on a Marshfield Fast Pitch Tournament Team for at least one season
  • Must plan to pursue a degree next fall at a 2 or 4-year college next year.
  • Deadline: 4-10-2022

Wilderness Sportsmen’s Club Scholarship ($2000)

  • Min. GPA=2.5 in grades 11 & 12
  • Pursuing post-secondary program in Natural Resources or an associated field next fall.  
  • One recipient per high school
  • Award may be divided among applicants
  • Deadline: 4-17-2022

Loraine B. Ross Scholarship - First Choice Credit Union ($600)

  • Graduate from high school this spring
  • Must attend a 2 or 4 year school this fall
  • Have (maintain) at least a 2.5 GPA
