Our 6th through 8th grade middle school athletic program is designed to mirror our varsity sports. We offer a wide range of team sport opportunities for both boys and girls at this level.

FALL SPORTS

CROSS COUNTRY

Both high school and middle school typically practice together.

FOOTBALL

Middle School Football also successfully co-ops with Spencer Middle School.  In this inaugural level of co-op sports at Columbus, boys from both schools meet and quickly establish bonds that make for a healthy, successful team and building blocks for high school football success known to SC Football fans.  They learn the basics of the SC Football offense, defense, and special teams, regardless of previous experience.  When possible, coaches from both Spencer and Columbus contribute to the coaching staff. Middle School players are provided transportation from Columbus Catholic Middle School to and from practice in Spencer, which serves as a terrific team bonding event. We are SC! We are family!

SOCCER (COED)

Columbus Middle School soccer is dedicated to helping players with all skill levels form a love for the game and get prepared for the high school soccer program. In 2020 and 2021 we had a winning season and look to continue improving.

VOLLEYBALL

The middle school teams continue to be strong. In the fall, we have volleyball for grades 6-8th.  The 6th-8th graders play volleyball and will travel for games. They have practice 2-3 times a week and games two times a week. The Great Northwest season for volleyball starts in March and ends in May for grades 4-8th.  The Spring is tournament play that is held on a few Saturdays.

WINTER SPORTS

BASKETBALL - BOYS

Third through fifth grade plays in various tournaments through the winter season.  This ranges from the YMCA League, to the Great Northwest Basketball League and the Cheesehead League.

BASKETBALL - GIRLS

Third through fifth grade plays in various tournaments through the winter season.  This ranges from the YMCA League, to the Great Northwest Basketball League and the Cheesehead League.

WRESTLING

Wrestling has been a recent addition to Columbus athletics through a co-op with the Spencer Rockets.  Since the start of the co-op in the 2015-16 season, the team has had 22 individual Cloverbelt Conference Champions. In 2017 the SC Rockets were Cloverbelt Conference Dual Meet & Tournament Champions, WIAA Div. 2 Regional Champions, and WIAA Div.2 Sectional Runners Up, one win away from the Team State Tournament. The SC Wrestling Team has also qualified 15 wrestlers for the Individual WIAA State tournament, with 8 place winners, and 4 Individual WIAA State.

SPRING SPORTS

BASEBALL

SOFTBALL

The Middle Schools Softball numbers are at an all-time high this season with 22 girls.  The development of our youth program and devoted coaching is what’s contributing to our great numbers and success.  The future is bright!

TRACK

Our coaching staff develops each athlete's speed, agility, power and running form to make them competitors over all.  They will do active dynamic stretching, plyometrics, resistance bands, form drills and micro cycled workouts.

Youth VOLLEYBALL League (SPRING)

This program is open to any girl (4th Grade - 8th Grade) that attends Columbus Catholic Schools or will be transferring.  There are 1-2 practices per week that does not interfere with spring sports.  Teams play in 3-8 tournaments that take place on Saturdays.  Program is free and volunteer-run.

SUMMER SPORTS

SOFTBALL

Columbus Catholic Youth Softball plays in the Stratford League with half games played at home and the other half at neighboring communities.  This if offered to girls from 1st - 7th Grades.  Weekend tournaments are optional.

SKILLS CAMPS

Like the young students, our middle school students have the opportunity to participate in skills camps in basketball, volleyball, and football. These camps are geared toward the growing skills of our middle school students and are designed to prepare them for future middle and high school competition.

SAND SPIKERS VOLLEYBALL CAMP

This camp offers boys and girls in grades 1-9 the chance to work on volleyball skills.  We will work on the fundamentals of the game while providing a safe and fun environment.  All areas of skills are welcome and we hope to teach kids to love the game of volleyball.

SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMP

This is offered to all public and private school students entering grades K-9.  The camp is designed to improve perimeter basketball skills necessary for success at all levels.  We instill in young people that basketball is fun and stress and understanding that doing small things well over time leads to great improvement.

VARSHO YOUTH BASEBALL

A training camp held in March for players aged 8-12 years old.  This is a perfect opportunity for baseball players to get excited for the upcoming season and have a chance to meet the high school head  baseball coach.
