Service — Be the Hand of God

Each student received paper crosses and is encouraged to perform acts of service during Lent. Watch the display inside the front door of the school to see the progress as students complete their acts of service and color crosses to hang. Please click HERE to view some examples of service.

Prayer

Our students in 4K through 2nd attend Mass each week. Our 1st and 2nd grade students will participate in Stations of the Cross each week during Lent on Fridays at 2:00 at St. John the Baptist Parish. Our Catholic 2nd grade students will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation.

Casa Hogar Collection — Mountains of Shoes of Friendship

We are collecting shoes for the children at the Casa Hogar orphanage. Our goal is 300 pairs of shoes. Please click HERE to see more details as to what shoes can be donated.

Prayer

In addition to our weekly school Mass, our students will participate in Stations of the Cross and will hold a prayer service each week during Lent on Fridays at 2:00 at Our Lady of Peace Parish. Our Catholic students will also receive the sacrament of Reconciliation.

Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) Mite Box Collection

The Missionary Childhood Association provides food to hungry children around the world. Each student received a mite box for voluntary donations.

Food Collection

Our middle school students are holding a competition by homeroom of non-perishable food, household, and personal items. Items collected will be donated to St. Vincent De Paul Outreach.

Fasting

  • Students will choose one of two Lenten challenges to work on during the week. At the end of each week, they will reflect on how well they succeeded with their “challenge.” Some examples are eating less junk food or watching less Netflix.
  • Students in 7th grade will go to the Columbus chapel weekly for prayer and silence.

Prayer

  • All Catholic students will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation.
  • Students in Spanish are learning the Lord's Prayer in Spanish (“El Padre Nuestro”) and a praise song called “Alabaré” which means “I will praise.”                   

Columbus Catholic High School

Almsgiving

All CCHS students will be doing a Feed My Starving Mobile Pack on April 17.  Leading up to this, there will be some fundraising activities.  Financial donations may be made to "Columbus Catholic Schools", writing "FMSC" in the memo line.  Questions can be sent to fleischmann.ruth@columbusdons.org

Fasting

Teachers are not offering food “treats” in their classes.

Prayer

  • Freshmen and Sophomores will do weekly reflections in the Columbus chapel.
  • Juniors and Seniors will go to the Columbus chapel weekly for prayer and silence.
  • All Catholic students will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation.
  • Freshman Literature students are reading a novel whose primary thematic focus is discovering God's plan for each of us.
  • Students in Spanish are learning a famous poem about forgiveness, kindness, and turning the other cheek.  It is called, “Cultivo Una Rosa Blanca” (“I grow a white rose”). They are also learning a famous song about being grateful, which is called “La Montaña.”
