Mrs. Heise's Updates

March 11, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank You!

It is hard to believe that we are at the end of three quarters of the school year.  While the year has been both different and difficult, there is certainly much success to be celebrated.  I would like to thank the teachers, the students, and you for the efforts put into helping our students grow in their learning, their wellness, and their faith lives.

End of the Quarter

With the end of the academic quarter coming right before spring break, we will be sending report cards home with students 4K-5th on March 26th.  Please review the reports with your children; celebrating the success and making plans to improve in areas that need to be worked on.  The fourth quarter of the year brings more work, more challenging learning, and an intent to prepare for the next grade level.  It will take a great deal of effort to move forward, but we know the students are up to it.

World Down Syndrome Day

Did you know that World Down Syndrome Day is March 21? This is because March is the 3rd month and those with Trisomy 21 have an extra chromosome attached to the 21st chromosome making it 3 instead of the typical 2. One way you can help spread awareness about Down Syndrome is by wearing your brightest, loudest, crazy socks! The idea is to get others talking about the unique gifts God has given us and those with Down syndrome. Please join us in rockin’ your socks at school on Monday, March 22nd, for those who are rockin’ Down Syndrome. Please see the flyer HERE.

Tees and Jeans

Today was a Tees and Jeans day.  Thank you for your continued support of this event through your dollar donations.  We will have two more Tees and Jeans days, but we will also have more #Ashleystrong and Jeans days.  On those bonus days, students may wear Dons Gear or their #Ashleystrong shirts and there will not be a request for a donation of $1.  Please be sure to check the calendar for those upcoming dates.

Columbus Catholic Youth Softball (grades 1-7)

The deadline to register for youth softball is April 2, 2021. Registration is online HERE. Please click HERE to learn more about the Columbus Catholic Youth Softball Program.

Uniform Exchange

We know that children outgrow clothing very quickly and that clothing does wear out.  Columbus Catholic is proud of the fact that we have a Uniform Exchange program.  This year, there will be an exchange during spring break.  Please click on this link HERE for more information about bringing clothing for the exchange and dates and times for the exchange.  Thank you!

Lenten Service Projects

We continue our journey through Lent with our focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Thank you to the teachers and students for gathering at the Stations of the Cross, for “giving up or to” as they fast, to OLP students for their donations to the Marshfield Hannah Center, and to the primary grade students as they find chores to do as part of their giving to others.

For those adding to their Mite Boxes, remember that Lent continues through spring break and into Holy Week. This time on the Way of the Cross is so meaningful in our faith lives and as we travel the road where Jesus walked, let us be mindful of the sacrifice God made for all of us

Notes for Spring Break and Beyond

Winter gear was sent home with students.  That doesn’t mean we won’t have more winter weather, but that the clothing needs to be washed.  Thank you.

Remember that students must have masks and water bottles at school.  Be sure to have students return to school with them.   We only have bottle filling stations for water.

There will not be any homework during break, but find time to read.  So much learning and so much fun.

Be sure to have fun and get loads of exercise!

Hopefully the warmer weather will continue after break.  If that is the case, students are allowed to wear sweatshirts outside (temps must be above 50 degrees at recess time). However, the only sweatshirts allowed at school are Dons sweatshirts or solid navy blue without hoods.
