Mrs. Heise's Updates

March 31, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

While this week may be a short one for staff and students, there is much more to these days than not going to school.  Beginning with Palm Sunday, we shared the story of Jesus’ journey, the sadness of the Stations of the Cross, and the ultimate joy we will have when Easter and Jesus’ Resurrection finally arrive.  Please be sure to celebrate the Good News with your children as they also find the fun in the egg hunts and Easter baskets.

Lenten Service Projects

Our elementary students have done a wonderful job with their Lenten service projects.  The St. John’s students have taken on chores at home and helped their friends and teachers at school as ways to show God that they care about others.  The students at OLP have collected coins for the Marshfield Hannah Center.  The total money raised for the Hannah Center is $879.64.  What a wonderful display of kindness during this season of Lent from all of our students! Thank you, also, to those who collected coins in their Mite Boxes for the Missionary Childhood Association.  These signs of love make such a difference in the lives of others.

Aftercare Coordinator

I would like to share with you a new addition to our St. John staff.  Welcome to Mrs. Alicia Kelly, who has joined us as our Aftercare Coordinator for the program.  We are excited to have Mrs. Kelly with us and look forward to her direction with the program. Thank you to our preschool and 4K teachers, along with teachers from the high school that have taken lead roles each day this year, so that we could have our aftercare program.  Thanks, also, to our high school teacher assistants who have worked in the program.  We could not do this without them.

Forward Exam

OLP students will begin taking the Forward Exam on April 6.  This standardized test is a formal assessment used to measure academic growth in our students.  As the exam was not given last spring due to COVID closures, this will be new to both our third and fourth graders.  Fifth graders would have taken this exam as third graders.  A separate letter was sent home with the OLP students, today. Please be sure to read the letter and review the schedule for testing.

Note from the Columbus Parent Association

The CCS Parent Association will be meeting on Wed, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Columbus cafeteria.  We will be discussing year-end activities, Teacher Appreciation Week, and more.  We hope to see parents there to help and share their ideas!  Please consider joining us.

Masks and social distancing are required.  Please use the front entrance of Columbus.

You Are In Our Prayers

As we go through this Holy Week, please know that you are in our prayers.  This time of new life in nature reminds us of the new life we are about to experience at Easter.  There is no greater gift than God’s love for us through His Son.  May the knowledge of that gift bring joy to your hearts and homes.
