Season Kickoff 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

Columbus Catholic Schools is excited to host the Season Kickoff 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, November 8, 2025, inside our brand new Columbus Catholic Fieldhouse. This fun-filled day of basketball will highlight teamwork, sportsmanship, and community spirit.

  • Time: Begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues until completion

Divisions

  • Grades 4–6: Boys and Girls (10 ft rims)
  • Grades 2–3: Boys and Girls (8 ft rims – a developmentally appropriate way to reinforce proper shooting technique)

Each division is limited to 8 teams, so early registration is encouraged.

Registration Information

  • Cost: $80 per team
  • Each player must have a signed parent waiver on file prior to the tournament. Waivers will be automatically emailed after registration—please ensure your email address is entered correctly.
  • Tournament information and the full schedule will be emailed approximately one week before the event.

Rules and Information


  • $5 per person, Children 10 and under & 1 coach per team: FREE.  Enter through Schmidt Ave parking lot doors
  • NO CARRY-INS, please support our basketball program
  • Concessions will be available throughout the day
  • For everyone’s safety, please do not walk between the courts at any time.
  • No shooting on open courts


Game Play

  1. Games consist of a 24 minutes running clock: two 12-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime. All courts will operate on the same clock.
  2. No timeouts.
  3. Coin flip determines first possession.
  4. Game starts once the ball is "checked" by the opponent. The defender must remain below the 3-point line during the check-in.
  5. Scoring:
    • 1 point = regular 2-point shot
    • 2 points = regular 3-point shot
  6. All jump balls will use the alternating-possession procedure.
  7. Substitutions can occur during dead-ball situations or after a made basket before the check-in. Call out "SUB!" to initiate.
  8. On all live-ball changes of possession, the ball must be dribbled or passed behind the arc with both feet touching outside the line.
    • Violation = turnover
    • "Free backs" allowed for 2nd, 3rd & 4th Grades, once behind the arc, defense may resume pressure.
  9. After made baskets or stoppages, the ball is checked in at the top of the arc.
  10. No stalling:
    1. Offense must shoot within 10 seconds if warned.
    2. Defense holding the check ball results in 1 point + possession to the opponent.
    3. Continued stalling = technical foul (+1 point) + loss of possession.
  11. No zone defenses allowed.
  12. Overtime (tie after regulation):
    • Alternate free throw attempts.
    • All players alternate shots.
    • Team with possession arrow shoots first.
    • 13-ft FT line for: 2nd, 3rd & 4th Grade Girls and Boys
    • 15-ft regulation line for all others

Fouls

  1. Team fouls only (not individual):
    • Excessive personal fouls may result in player removal.
  2. On 7th+ team foul: 1 point + change of possession.
  3. Shooting fouls (made basket): 1 point + team foul + change of possession.
  4. Zero Tolerance Policy:
    • Poor sportsmanship or rough play = 1 point + team foul + possession to offended team
    • Penalties may include removal from game, tournament, or facility

Tournament Operations

  1. 1 official + 1-2 scorekeepers per game. Calls may vary by experience.
  2. All games follow a set schedule and start every 30 minutes.
    • Teams must be at their court at least 5 minutes early
    • Late arrival = forfeit
    • 3-minute warm-up per game (coin flip during warm-up)
  3. Each team is guaranteed 3 games (forfeits count).
  4. Teams must wear matching shirts (preferably reversible). Numbers are encouraged.
  5. Teams consist of 3-4 players. No player may play on more than one team.
  6. Concessions available all day

Division/Team Standings:

  • We will keep track of wins/losses throughout the day and post online.

Awards:

Everyone will receive a medal at the conclusion of their day.  Please stop by the concession stand to pick up for your team.
