Courts and Schedule

• Matches will run simultaneously on 6 courts (Courts 1–6).
• JV1 and JV2 pool matches will be scheduled across the courts to maximize efficiency.
• We will begin the day with a 5-5-5 warm-up (5 minutes shared, 5 minutes each team) for the first round of pool play only.
• All subsequent matches will adapt their warm-up times as needed for the tournament to stay on schedule.

Tie-Breaker Procedures

If teams are tied in pool play standings, the following criteria will be used in order to determine seedings:

1. Head-to-head result between tied teams
2. Set ratio (sets won divided by sets lost)
3. Point differential (total points scored minus points allowed)
4. Total points scored
5. Coin toss if all other criteria are equal

• Fee: $200 per team per level, payable to Columbus Catholic Schools (please write “The Opening Set — Tournament Fee” in the memo).

Tournament Format

• 8:30 a.m. Coaches Meeting
• 9:00 a.m. Tournament Starts
• Both JV1 and JV2 feature 8 teams each, divided into two pools of four (Pool A & Pool B).
• Teams play a round-robin within their pool (3 matches per team).
• Match format: Best 2 out of 3 sets — first two sets to 25 points, third set to 15 points, if necessary.
• Teams are expected to work courts as noted in the schedule. Please pay close attention! For the 1:30 bracket play the teams on court 5 and 6 will need to provide workers.
• After pool play, teams are re-seeded into Gold and Silver brackets based on pool standings:
  • Gold Bracket: 1st & 2nd place teams from each pool
  • Silver Bracket: 3rd & 4th place teams from each pool

Additional Tournament Information

• All matches will be live-streamed on the Hudl platform (subject to availability).
• Cashless ticketing is highly encouraged for entry through Bound. Link details are HERE or on their website. Cash admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students or $8 and $3 through Bound.
• A full concession stand will be available on site, featuring hot dogs, pretzels with cheese, nachos, candy, popcorn, chips, drinks, and warm cookies. Cashless payment is preferred.
• Carry-ins are discouraged as all concession proceeds support our athletic department.
• Please park using the Schmidt Avenue entrance and enter directly into the fieldhouse for access to all courts. Be mindful of the spaces closest to Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Church, as there is a 4:00 PM Saturday Mass and parishioners will need those spots.
• Buses are asked to drop off teams and then park in the high school parking lot off 8th Street (behind the high school).
• Teams will be assigned to the cafeteria to keep their belongings during the day. This information will be communicated at check-in and included in the coaches’ packet handed out at the 8:30 AM coaches meeting.
• Warm-up balls will be provided. Please do not bring your own.

Team Responsibilities

To help the day run smoothly, we ask that each team provides workers during their designated times to:

• Work the score table during their assigned matches (book and clock)
• Serve as a line judges during their assigned matches

Thank you in advance for helping ensure the tournament operates efficiently and fairly for all teams! Pay close attention to the bracket play schedule for assignments as pool play finishes.

Tie-Breaker Procedures

Tournament Procedures: Home/Guest, Benches & Toss

Benches & Warm-Up

• The home team (alphabetical first) selects its bench and warms up first.

Court Sides (No Switching)

• Because none of the six courts offers a strategic advantage by side—and to save time while allowing fans to remain on their team’s side—teams will not switch sides between sets during this tournament. (Sides remain the same for the entire match.) The exception to this is court 2 during the morning if sun is a factor.

Pre-Match Coin Toss

• Before each match, the visiting (guest) team calls the coin toss.
• The winner chooses to serve or receive.

Third Set Coin Toss

• If a third set is played, the home team calls the toss.
• The winner chooses to serve or receive. (Sides still remain the same.)
