Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation (WRISA) is a nonprofit organization formed in 1991 by the Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools to provide non-public schools with an ongoing school improvement process.  WRISA's three phase accreditation process provides school communities with the opportunity to explore every aspect of their school program, receive valuable feedback from a team of impartial professional educators, and develop a long range plan using the WRISA framework. Once accredited, schools file an annual report documenting that they are in compliance with the WRISA Standards and that they have made progress on their long range plan.  WRISA is a state chapter of the National Federation of Nonpublic School State Accrediting Associations which is recognized by the College Board and the Office of Non-Public Education, an office within the U. S. Department of Education.

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian organization that specifically targets hunger in children around the world.  FMSC partners with faith, health care, humanitarian, and educational organizations to get food to the recipients with little government involvement.  Because of their unique and wise structure, FMSC food has been donated to over 70 countries through hundreds of partner organizations, and more than 99% of the food has arrived safely (which is highly unusual in some of these countries).  Food scientists from Cargill, General Mills, and Pillsbury teamed up to create a food product that is culturally acceptable, cheap to produce, easy to package, easy for recipients to safely cook and eat, easy to digest, and has the essential vitamins/minerals and proteins/carbs that malnourished children need.  This dry food is packaged and sealed by volunteer groups across our country.  The Marshfield community typically hosts a MobilePack Event at Zion United Methodist Church every spring.  Many church groups, family groups, and business teams sign up for shifts to pack meals.  Every year our high school students participate by packing meals for two hours.

Wisconsin Students in 6-8th grade and 10th grade participate in the Forward Exam. Here is a link for the Forward Testing Informational Brochure for Families, which gives more information about the assessment, including its purpose, what scores will be provided, and how the scores will be used.  This assessment measures the knowledge and skills your student(s) should have acquired by the time they reach each grade level. Their performance on the assessment will not affect any of their current grades. Please encourage your son or daughter to take the test seriously and do the best they can. The results of these tests will be used to help school staff make determinations or placement in classes to best support your child(ren).  If you have any questions, please contact lambrecht.michael@columbusdons.org

The Marshfield Area Career Expo (MACE) is a talent development initiative of the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry.  The event is typically held in April at Mid-State Technical College and UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield campuses.  This event engages high school sophomores in our ten area school districts to explore careers utilizing the 16-career cluster model. The goal is for students to gain knowledge about a variety of careers through hands-on type activities, related experiences, education requirements, and an opportunity to explore school-to-career employment with involved businesses.

Columbus Catholic Schools are dedicated to excellence in Catholic education, founded in the love of Jesus Christ, and designed to instill in our students faith, knowledge, and a desire to serve others.

O

Open Campus Students are given extra privileges for good behavior, including the ability to go outside (not allowed to leave school grounds) and leave study hall.  Students who have open campus meet the following criteria:  only juniors and seniors; must maintain a set GPA (juniors 3.7, seniors 3.5); no detentions ; no tardies or unexcused absences.  Students who have open campus will have a laminated open campus pass they must show prior to leaving their study halls.  Please see the student handbook for more information.

Fees other than tuition and lunch are considered “other fees” and include field trip fees, etc.  These are automatically charged to your Family Billing Account so it is not necessary to send money with students (unless spending money is allowed).  Other Fees do not need to be paid until they have been changed to your account.

P

At Columbus we administer the PSAT test in the fall to all of our 11th graders. We also extend the opportunity to any 10th-grade students who wish to take the test (there will be a fee charged to 10th graders). The benefit is to give the students practice for when they take the ACT in the spring of junior year so that they can become more comfortable with the format, learn how to pace themselves in a timed test, and try to improve in areas that may need more attention. Their individual scores will not be shared with any colleges and are for their own self-awareness. Each student receives the PSAT Student Guide so they will know what to expect for the test.  Each student can read through the content more thoroughly on his/her own time as well as take the practice test.

Every spring the Columbus Catholic 8th grade students attend the Marshfield Area Reality Store hosted by MACCI. The store is designed to provide students with a glimpse of how much things cost and how quickly they add up. It is a game of “real life,” providing eighth-grade students with an opportunity to create a monthly budget. Before the store opens, students are assigned a gross income, marital, family, and benefit status. The first lesson students learn is how to calculate their net monthly income from a gross salary. With this information, students visit the store to create a monthly budget that includes mortgage, groceries, and everything else a household faces. It is an invaluable piece in helping students put the puzzle of their future together.

During Shadow Day, we welcome prospective students to experience the Columbus Catholic difference firsthand. Each shadow student is paired with a “Buddy,” giving them a true taste of life as a Don. Typically held in February, Shadow Day takes place at OLPI, CCMS and CCHS.  Shadow students attend classes with their buddies and even join them for lunch!  For more information, contact our Admissions office at admissions@columbusdons.org

Stepping Up Day is one of our Admissions Events.  Typically held in February / March, this event gives students who are moving up to a new school in the NEXT year a taste of what to expect!  On this day, second graders at SJBP will spend a day as a third grader at OLPI.  The third and fourth graders at OLPI also move up a grade.  The fifth graders at OLPI spend a day at CCMS as a sixth grader.  (Sixth graders are typically away on their retreat this day.)

Columbus Catholic High School participates in the University of Wisconsin Direct Admit Program. The program allows students to apply to almost all UW schools without having to do a traditional application. Almost all UW Schools - except UW Madison, UW Eau Claire, and UW La Crosse - participate in the direct admit program.

How this works:

If you opt IN, meaning you would like to participate in this program:

  1. You will be permitting CCHS to share information with the direct admit team, which will then be shared with all participating UW schools. This would include GPA, transcripts, and other items needed to apply to a college. So, essentially, CCHS will apply for you based on your GPA and requirements for admission.
  2. Once we send your information, you will receive your acceptance/denial letters between August and October of your senior year. You will have until May of your senior year to accept an offer that was given through direct admit.
  3. You do not have to accept any acceptance letters that are offered to you. These are letters that tell you that you are accepted to a University but not yet enrolled. If you have more questions or concerns about this, please ask Ms. Varsho.

If you opt OUT, meaning you would NOT like to participate in this program:

  1. CCHS will not share any of your information with the direct admit team, so if you choose to apply to one of these UW schools, you would need to do a traditional application on your own.

In February, our high school juniors participate in an event that aims to help them prepare for higher education. They are joined by students from other areas and have the opportunity to learn from Marshfield area business professionals about various aspects of the “real world.” The event covers topics such as interview tips, resume building, and an employer panel that educates students about what to expect on the job. Additionally, there's student panels where college students share their experiences about life after high school.

The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is a nationwide survey designed to collect important information about the health and behaviors of students in middle and high school. It helps schools and health organizations understand trends in areas such as nutrition, physical activity, substance use, mental health, and other factors that can impact student well-being.  At Columbus, we typically participate in the spring.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and anonymous. If you do not want your child to participate, you may opt them out. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Mr. Lambrecht at lambrecht.michael@columbusdons.org or click the link for more information.

Youth Wellness Hub is an easy-to-use website that asks you questions about your kid's behavioral or mental health needs and then automatically generates a list of resources and centers across the state / country that can help your family and kids (this could be financial, counseling, OT/speech and other therapies, insurance help, etc.).
