Alpine Holiday Sign Ups Are Live (gr. Pre-12)
Our annual Alpine Holiday depends on the generosity and spirit of our school community. There are many ways to get involved: volunteer, bake for the Dessert Cart, or donate items for the Book Room, Silent Auction, or Kid’s Raffle. b.e.s.t Universal Screening (gr. 4K-12)

CCS uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to help every child grow academically and socially. As part of this process, students take universal screenings in reading, math, and behavioral health during the year. These screenings help us identify where support may be needed so we can provide timely interventions. If you have questions, or if you would like your child to be opted out of the universal screening process, please contact your building principal. For more details, please see the link below.

Chaplain’s Travel Raffle
Tickets are now on sale for $50 each, with a chance to win a trip to Ireland with Frs. Robertson and Clements (Apr. 28 to May 5, 2026) or a $4200 cash prize. Mission Club Dress Down Day (gr. Pre-12)

Fri., Oct. 17, is a Mission Club Dress Down Day. Proceeds benefit local nonprofit organizations. Participation is optional, but students who choose not to participate must follow the regular dress code.

Season Kickoff 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament (gr. 2-6)

Join us for our Season Kickoff 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament in the new Columbus Catholic Fieldhouse on Sat., Nov. 8, 2025, starting at 8:30 a.m. Boys and girls in grades 2–6 will compete in grade and gender divisions (with age-appropriate rim heights). Cost is $80 per team, limited to 8 teams per division. Register early to secure your spot!

Grandparents Day (gr. 4K-2)

We look forward to welcoming our Grandparents and Grandfriends to St. John the Baptist Primary School this week. To make the event special, we are asking for light refreshments and snacks. Both store-bought and homemade treats are welcome. Please label any with nuts or other allergens.

Third grade had a wonderful time visiting the Lucille Tack Center to see The World in Motion with Mister C. Students learned about the three laws of motion with fun, hands-on demonstrations.

Dribbling Dons (gr. 4K-3)

The six-week Dribbling Dons program will be held on Saturdays at Columbus Catholic High School: Dec. 6, 13, 20, Jan. 3, 10, and 17.

  • Gr. 4K–1: 9:00–10:15 a.m.

Special Performances:

  • Jan. 23 – Halftime of Boys’ Varsity Game

Mass before Homecoming (gr. 9-12)

Columbus students are invited to attend the 4:00 p.m. Mass at Our Lady of Peace on Sat. (Oct. 11), before the Homecoming Dance. High school students are encouraged to come in their Homecoming dance attire. We kindly ask that ladies bring a sweater or jacket to ensure shoulders are covered during Mass.

FAFSA Now Open (gr. 12)
The FAFSA application is now available. Seniors and families can find more information and helpful links in the High School Counseling Google Classroom. Completing the FAFSA is important for everyone. Even if you think you may not qualify for aid, the results may surprise you. Many scholarships also require a completed FAFSA, so do not miss out on these opportunities.

Athletics in Action This Week

Our Volleyball Team has claimed its ninth straight Cloverbelt East Conference Championship and will play Chippewa Falls McDonell on Thursday in the First Place Crossover game. Varsity Soccer faces Amherst on Monday for the conference title and wraps up regular season play Thursday before heading into the postseason. Cross Country competes at the Cloverbelt Conference Meet in Owen on Saturday. Best of luck to all our student athletes as they finish the regular season and prepare for postseason competition!

Heavy Metal Tour (gr. 8)

Our 8th-grade students will be participating in the Heavy Metal Tour on Tue. (Oct. 7). The Heavy Metal Tour is an opportunity for students to explore exciting career options in manufacturing. They will embark on tours of local manufacturing facilities. Further details will be sent home with our 8th-grade students.

Homecoming

CCMS and CCHS students will participate in special dress days next week. CCHS will also participate in a change war, dress down days, and many competitions. Please see the flyers below for each.

Dress Down Day (gr. Pre-12)

Tue., Sept. 30, is an extra Dress Down Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink in recognition of Columbus Blocks Cancer happening at that night’s volleyball game. Permitted attire includes jeans, athletic shorts, sweatpants, T-shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, quarter-zips, and jerseys. Graphics must be school appropriate. It’s an exciting week for fall sports with athletes competing both at home and on the road! Don’t miss these two highlights: the Girls Varsity Tennis Conference Meet in Rhinelander on Thursday, September 25, at 9:00 a.m., a key milestone as they face top conference opponents, and the Boys Varsity Cross Country Night Fall Classic on Friday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. at RiverEdge Golf Course, where they’ll race under the lights. School Masses – Doors Locked (gr. Pre-12)

Starting this school year, St. John the Baptist and Our Lady of Peace church doors will be locked during the 8:00 a.m. School Masses as an added layer of safety for our students, staff, clergy, and families. St. John the Baptist doors will lock by 7:40 a.m., and Our Lady of Peace doors will lock at 8:00 a.m. Staff will be at the main entrances before Mass and for a few minutes after Mass begins. All other weekday Mass times will remain open as usual. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Chris Nemitz, Elementary School Counselor, at nemitz.chris@columbusdons.org or 715-387-1177 (Ext. 1100).

Mission Club Dress Down Day (gr. Pre-12)

Our first Mission Club Dress Down Day is Friday, Sept. 19. Proceeds will benefit Shirley’s House of Hope — a great way for students to support an important cause. Participation is optional, but students who choose not to participate must follow the regular dress code.

Full-year payments must be made online by Friday, Sept. 19 (link below). After that date, students will need to bring cash each month and give it to their homeroom teacher on Dress Down Day.

Come cheer on our student-athletes! This Saturday we host varsity soccer at 1:00 p.m. at Greise Park and JV1/JV2 volleyball tournaments at home, while Varsity Volleyball travels for an invitational. Next week is full of tennis, football, soccer, cross country, and our volleyball home opener.

Weight Room & Fieldhouse Access (gr. 6-12)

Beginning next week, students may use our new weight room and the fieldhouse for Morning Fitness, Monday through Friday, 6:15–7:30 a.m., supervised by Coach Scheuer and Coach Konieczny.

  • Drop-off: Enter through Schmidt Avenue doors
  • Student drivers: Park in the high school lot after fitness

After-school weight room and batting cage access will be shared soon. Please help us keep these spaces clean and equipment in place.

Student Service Hour Opportunity (gr. 6-12)

Mrs. Fleischmann has a service hour opportunity through Phil’s Friends, a national Christian organization supporting cancer patients. She’s hosting a coloring party after school on Monday, Sept. 15, in her room—everyone is welcome! Cool mornings are here! Please send a coat, sweater, or sweatshirt with your child. If you require assistance in obtaining cool-weather gear, please contact Chris Nemitz, School Counselor for Grades Preschool–5, at nemitz.chris@columbusdons.org. He can get you in contact with local agencies. All requests will be handled confidentially.

Wisconsin Education Fair (gr. 11)

On Sept. 25, juniors will attend the Wisconsin Education Fair at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids, where representatives from over 100 colleges, technical institutes, and military organizations will be present.

Appointment Notes (gr. 6-12)

If your student misses school for a medical appointment, please provide a note from the provider and turn it in to the office.

Reminder about Schedule Changes (gr. 6-12)

Schedule changes for first semester will end this week.  If, in the coming weeks, you wish to drop a core class for any reason, you will need to pick up a drop/add form from Miss Varsho’s office and collect the required signatures. Second semester schedule changes may still be made until the start of second semester. You can reach Miss. Varsho, MS/HS Counselor, at varsho.brianna@columbusdons.org.

Weight Room Update (gr. 6-12)

We are looking forward to opening our weight room for morning sessions soon. Once we receive clearance from our construction company, we will share the official start date. Our plan is to have the facility open from 6:15–7:30 a.m. 6th-12th students may come for a quick lift and leave when they need to—it’s not required to stay for the full time.
