Advent
Sunday, November 30, 2025 – Wednesday, December 24, 2025
Advent marks the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year and encompasses the four Sundays and weekdays leading up to Christmas. It is a sacred season of prayerful preparation, inviting us to focus our hearts and minds both on Christ’s promised second coming and on the joyful celebration of His birth at Christmas.
Students in each of our schools are preparing for Christmas during this season of Advent.
Advent in our Classrooms
St. John the Baptist Primary School
St. John the Baptist Primary School is preparing for Christmas with a school-wide Advent focus that includes classroom prayers and weekly Advent wreath lighting, fun and meaningful art projects, and daily opportunities to “find Mary,” a plush doll hidden around the school that encourages students to complete acts of kindness. Using an Advent calendar of Saints of the Day, students also learn about each saint through engaging activities that celebrate their feast days. Above all, our school community is practicing the virtues of hope, peace, joy, and love as we prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus.

Our Lady of Peace Intermediate School
Our Lady of Peace Intermediate School is observing Advent with classroom activities that invite students to share Christ’s light through kindness and service. Through a Postcard Project, students create encouraging cards from recycled Christmas cards to send to classmates and staff while raising funds for the Special Olympics–Marshfield Chapter. In the Gather and Give Advent Food Drive Competition, classes collect non-perishable food items for St. Vincent’s Food Pantry and track their progress on a school leaderboard. Each week, the Letters of Light activity encourages students to write to people who inspire and protect them, expressing gratitude and joy. Together, these Advent activities help students grow in friendship, charity, and respect as they prepare their hearts for the birth of Jesus.

Columbus Catholic Middle and High School
Students at Columbus Catholic Middle/High School will participate in weekly Advent prayer services or reflections that draw on Scripture and Advent music to help them prepare for Christmas. Throughout the season, they will also pray with the Jesse Tree, using the ornament of the day as a guide for reflection and spiritual preparation, and will take part in Advent wreath prayers and daily Scripture readings to deepen their anticipation of Christ’s coming. In addition, students will participate in Columbus Cares, an ongoing tradition of creating cards for community members in nursing homes as a way to share Christ’s love during the Advent and Christmas seasons.

The Immaculate Conception of Mary
On December 8, the Church celebrates one of the most beautiful Truths of our Faith: the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This solemnity honors the moment when Mary, from the first instant of her existence, was preserved free from all stain of original sin. God prepared Mary in a unique way to be the Mother of His Son.
