Lenten Season 2026

February 18 – April 2, 2026

During Lent, our schools will focus on prayer, service, and acts of kindness through classroom activities, school-wide service projects, and at-home faith practices. Students are encouraged to grow in their love for Christ by praying for others, serving those in need, and living out the pillars of Lent each day.

Lenten Activities by School

Lent Activities at St. John the Baptist Primary School

All-School Service Project

Preschool–2nd grade students will create Easter/Spring crafts that will be shared with local nursing homes and assisted living centers as a way to spread joy and kindness during Lent.

All-School Classroom Activity: Crown of Thorns

Classes will participate in a “Crown of Thorns” activity. Each time a student shows kindness or makes a sacrifice (without seeking recognition), a thorn (toothpick) will be removed from Christ’s crown. The goal is to remove all thorns before Easter, reflecting daily acts of love and sacrifice.

All-School At-Home Lenten Activity (Preschool–2nd Grade)

Students are encouraged to color a cross each day of Lent to reflect good deeds completed at home, such as saying extra prayers, helping others, or doing chores without being asked.

Lent Activities at Our Lady of Peace Intermediate School

Classroom Prayer Chain

Each homeroom will create a purple prayer chain representing the 26 school days of Lent. Students will write prayer intentions on each link. One link will be removed daily and included in morning prayer and pledge time.

Stations of the Cross

Students will lead Stations of the Cross on Thursdays at 12:10 p.m. on the following dates:

  • February 19, 2026 – Grade 5
  • February 26, 2026 – Grade 4 (with Student of the Month)
  • March 5, 2026 – Grade 3
  • March 12, 2026 – Grade 5
  • March 19, 2026 – Grade 4

Service Project: Copper Paws Rescue

Students will collect donations to support Copper Paws Rescue. Founder Brittany Schueller will visit on Friday, February 20, at 12:10 p.m. to share about their mission and officially kick off the drive (with puppies!).

Home Connection

In religion class, students will learn about the Three Pillars of Lent—prayer, fasting, and almsgiving—and will be encouraged to track their Lenten practices at home using a Lenten Journey Calendar.

Lent Activities at Columbus Catholic Middle School

Middle school students will participate in daily reflections throughout Lent, along with a weekly Lenten reflection to help them grow in faith and prepare their hearts for Easter.

Lent Activities at Columbus Catholic High School

High school students will engage in videos and guided discussions focused on making Lent meaningful by both giving something up and adding something that strengthens their relationship with Christ. Throughout the season, students will participate in weekly Adoration, pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, and reflect on the Stations of the Cross as part of their class prayer time.
